New Treatment Method for Posterior Capsule Rupture Established

Researchers at the ophthalmologic laboratory of the Clinical Institute of South Phyongan Provincial General Hospital have achieved successes in clinical practice by establishing an advanced treatment method for posterior capsule rupture.

Several years ago, the research team of the laboratory, while trying to develop a new treatment method for posterior capsular rupture, came across a transplantation operation method described in a document on medical techniques, which attracted their attention.

The operation method was very practical because it did not require many medical equipment and instruments. However, it was not easy to establish an operation method on the basis of a few lines of data.

The knottiest problem was to make an iris grip lens.

Kim Kyong Hui, chief of the laboratory, and researchers Hwang Won Sok, Kung Song Hyok, Ri Yong Min and Choe Nam Ok racked their brains for several days and nights and finally found a way to solve the problem. After completing the design and making a sample lens, they performed a number of simulations to identify the effective placement point and angle of the lens and refine the operation skills. Meanwhile, they made necessary medical instruments.

The method made it possible to shorten the operation time and improve the post-operation stability of the position of the lens, and it caused little complications. The application of the method helped cure many patients, who had been unable to get the lens into their eyes due to posterior capsule rupture.

The iris grip rear intraocular lens developed and completed by them and the operation method based on it were highly appreciated at the national exhibition of sci-tech achievements of the public health sector-2024 and the national symposium on medical sciences-2026.
