Spirit of Devoted Service and High Practical Ability

The Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea stressed the need for health workers to embody the spirit of unconditional service to the people and possess warm sincerity and high medical skills.

When medical workers prepare themselves to be competent doctors possessed of sincerity and high practical ability, the benefits of the socialist healthcare system can reach the people as they are and the public health service can be steadily improved as required by the developing reality.

What is important here is to embody the spirit of devoted service.

Many health workers are devoting themselves to the treatment of patients, embodying love for and the spirit of selfless service to human beings. Among them are Kim Myong Wol, who has cured many people with visual impairment while working for scores of years as the chief doctor of the ophthalmological department of the North Hwanghae Provincial General Hospital, and Pyon Myong Hui, a practical nurse at the Kaechon City General Hospital, who has worked wholeheartedly for patients for decades.

Another important thing for health workers is to acquire a high degree of medical skills with which they can take responsibility for human life and health.

The spirit of unconditional service to human beings and utmost devotion to them can be translated into genuine love only when they are supported by high practical ability.

Many health workers in the DPRK are well known among the people for their sincere devotion and great expertise in their specialized fields. Among them are the health workers of the Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital who have established a Korean-style operation method for vitreoretinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, which are regarded as incurable diseases in the world, and the health workers of the North Hamgyong Provincial General Hospital who have made remarkable achievements in treating refractory diseases by using traditional Koryo therapies.

The health workers are making strenuous efforts, cherishing in mind the greetings “Thank you” from the patients as high commendations for them.
