New Therapy Proved Successful

Researchers of the breast disease section of the Breast Tumour Institute of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital have made successes in medical treatment.
Section chief Kim Hyon Hui and researchers O Su Ryon and Kim Myong Gwon have paid attention for several years to the method of intra-arterial anticancer medicine injection for patients with locally advanced breast cancer.
In the past, intravenous anticancer medicine injection has been the major treatment method for locally advanced breast cancer. However, this method was not high in the survival rate of patients.
Thus, they injected the medicines through the arteries rather than through the veins in preoperative anticancer therapy.
Intra-arterial anticancer medicine injection can reduce the number of injection by 1 or 2 as compared to intravenous anticancer medicine injection, and inject anticancer medicines by selecting the feeding artery according to the lesion. So it helps increase the rate of lesion reduction and remarkably decrease the frequency and severity of the occurrence of systemic side effects.
Intra-arterial anticancer medicine injection has produced therapeutic effects which were difficult to achieve with intravenous anticancer therapy of locally advanced breast cancer.
This method improves the survival rate and quality of life of patients.
