Cancer Therapeutic Medicine Using Nanotechnology

Researchers of the Biomedicine Institute under the Academy of Medical Sciences have developed efficacious nanogold-platinum IV injection for treating cancerous diseases.

According to Sin Song Chol, PhD and the key developer, chemo-anticancer medicines, including cisplatin and methotrexate, which are most commonly used for cancer treatment, have high anticancer activity, but produce adverse effects in the course of their use.

Sin Song Chol, section chief Jo Myong Jun, and researchers Pyon Chung Guk and O Hyang have worked for years to develop superior medicines with high cancer treatment efficacy by loading nanogold into cisplatin.

As a result, they developed a new molecular-targeted medicine—nanogold-platinum IV injection—with high therapeutic efficacy and little adverse effects including leukopenia.

Nanogold-platinum IV injection, which is efficacious for the treatment of lymphoma and several types of cancer, is expected to have great potential for application.
