By Proactively Applying Advanced Treatment Methods

Kim Man Yu Hospital in the DPRK has made successes in treatment by introducing advanced treatment methods in otolaryngologic neck surgery.

Among them, laryngeal microsurgery has demonstrated significant advantages in clinical practice.

In the past, laryngeal surgery under monoanesthesia has been applied for vocal cord diseases including singer’s nodule and vocal polyps.

However, this method was not suitable for patients with hardly visible vocal cords, large polyps, and wide polypoid muscles.

Based on the review and analysis of the literature, Pak Myong Jin, doctor of the department, selected an efficient surgical method and then manufactured necessary surgical tools and devices.

Meanwhile, he conducted dozens of simulations with the method to solve technical problems arising in clinical practice one by one.

Six months after the start of the research, he completed an advanced laryngeal microsurgery method that conforms to the constitutional characteristics of Koreans.

In addition, the department has introduced more than 10 advanced treatment methods, including ossiculoplasty, myringoplasty, minimally invasive endoscopic sinus opening, and endoscopic sinus surgery, all using domestic materials.
