Master at Treating Genetic Diseases

Professor Jo Sin Ok, PhD and chief of the clinical genetics department of Pyongyang General Hospital, is very good at treating various kinds of genetic diseases.

She has showed a high cure rate in the treatment of genetic disorders leading to adolescent retardation of growth and dysphasia.

The adolescence-induced growth-stimulating therapy developed by her was registered as a national sci-tech hit last year and proved effective in many children with growth retardation.

In the course of pioneering linguistic pathology for the first time in the country, she identified the types of language disorders and completed the relevant step-by-step treatment methods, giving pleasure to children with disabilities and their parents.

She is also good at treating infertility caused by genetic abnormalities.

A woman living in Tongan-dong, Central District, who had suffered from infertility for more than 10 years came to be impregnated a year after she received Jo’s treatment. There are many similar cases.

She argues that women need to manage their health before pregnancy more scientifically rather than after pregnancy in order to have a healthy child.

Her recent book “Common knowledge of medicine use before and after pregnancy and during nursing” is popular not only among doctors but also among women.

She was honoured with the title of meritorious person of socialist patriotism for the achievements she made in the field of genetic medicine for more than 40 years.
