By Establishing Advanced Surgical Methods



The abdominal surgery research section of the clinical research institute of Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences strives to improve the quality of medical service by employing advanced surgical methods.
Kang Song Ung, head of the section, and other researchers applied laparoscopic approach to such medical conditions as acute appendicitis and gastric perforation more than a decade ago, for the first time in the country.
As they have widened the scope of the treatment, they completed the method of operating intestinal disorders and tumours.
In addition, they established treatment methods to deal with various diseases that require complicated surgical procedures and those who suffer from unidentified abdominal pain. And they also wrote reference books.
Many patients with abdominal diseases recovered their health thanks to the competent research team.
Recently they successfully treated an old man called Ri Ki Ho who had long suffered from gastric ulcer and was sent to the hospital after he developed peritonitis caused by gastric perforation.
They transfer their advanced surgical methods to provincial general hospitals.
