Bringing Light Back to Patients with Eye Troubles

Health workers at the cataract department of the Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital are making achievements in the treatment of patients.
Cataract is more likely to be caused by ageing than anything else.
Department chief Choe Kyun Jin and other health workers treat aged persons with visual impairments as kindly as they do their own flesh and blood, while applying phacoemulsification to those cataract-stricken patients to bring light back to them.
Lately they successfully treated a centenarian from Tongdaewon District, who is now reading a newspaper, and conducted an operation to cure a war veteran from Taedonggang District of cataract to improve his eyesight.
Most recently they inserted intraocular lenses into the eyes of a patient diagnosed with microcornea, nystagmus and congenital cataract on his both eyes, bringing about positive results.
They also successfully operated other patients suffering from traumatic cataract, congenital cataract and complicated cataract, bringing joy of life to them.
Since the opening of the hospital the department has conducted tens of thousands of cataract operations, bringing the benefits of the socialist healthcare system to the people.
Voices of gratitude are coming from the patients.
The department has won first place at several national sci-tech shows and has been awarded certificates of more than 20 inventions of operational apparatuses and materials.
