Medical Service

With Sincere Devotion

The general traumatic surgery department of Pyongyang Municipal General Hospital No. 2 is counted as one of the renowned departments in the hospital. The medical workers in the department are competent enough to treat not only general trauma patients but also serious and most serious cases.

Not long ago, a patient with severe sepsis due to diabetic gangrene was admitted to the hospital. At that time, the patient had a multiple organ failure and a 70-degree oxygen saturation, so medical workers in the department felt nervous.

After holding a consultation, the medical workers of the department including department head Rim Yu Chol fixed the blood sugar level of the patient first. Then, five consultative meetings guided by the deputy director in charge of technical affairs, seven consultative meetings of doctors of the department, and several other consultative meetings with departments of respiratory organs, blood transfusion and anesthesia were held for the patient who was an ordinary worker.

Surgery was decided on, but it could be highly risky because the oxygen saturation of the patient was low.

Rim Yu Chol inspired the nervous doctors with confidence saying that the surgery would be a success if they regarded the patient as their own flesh and blood.

The surgery was successfully done thanks to the efforts of the medical workers.

Last year, too, they miraculously saved a patient with the second- to third-degree burns over 50 percent of the body.
