Establishing New Method of Operation for Urethral Stricture

Researchers at the Urological Surgery Research Section of Kim Man Yu Hospital newly established a method of operation for traumatic urethral stricture and introduced it into clinical practice.
Since the urethra is only 6-7mm in diameter, operation to remove stricture of urethral is recognized worldwide as a challenge.
The researchers at the section including Choe Sung Hyon PhD, section chief Ro Ik Son and researcher Ko Jin Hyok worked out a method of operation for urethral stricture suited to the physical constitution of the Korean people after many years of strenuous efforts, thus ensuring a cure rate of more than 90 percent among the patients with urethra stricture by performing one or a few rounds of operations.
This method is to penetrate the stricture area by using a device they made without opening or removing it. As it makes it possible to minimize surgical invasion and shorten the operation time a great deal, it can reduce the burden on the patient and shorten the recovery period to the maximum.
As it is based on a novel and unique principle, the method was recognized as the most advanced urethral stricture surgery method by the world and domestic medical circles as soon as it was made public.
Now, researchers of the section work hard to introduce the method into hospitals across the country.
