Medical Workers Bring Joy of Resuscitation

The medical workers at the general surgery department of Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences Hospital are devoting themselves to the treatment of the most serious cases, especially those who have sustained severe burns or frostbites.
Recently a burned soldier was rushed to the department. With third-degree burns in 70% of his body and serious burn shock, he was in a fatal condition.
The department held a consultative meeting, followed by an intensive procedure. Medical workers, including department chief Ri Kyong Ae, took shifts around the clock to take care of the patient at his bedside. Lots of medicines and blood were injected into his body.
Although the patient often lost consciousness with his pulse and blood pressure dropping almost to zero, they went on with treatment. At the same time they inspired the patient with courage and confidence.
Consequently, the patient came out of the critical condition, and he could undergo two rounds of operation.
In those days, the medical team prepared lots of tonics and nutritious foods for the patient.
At last, he left the hospital in good health after 60-odd days.
This is, of course, what has happened in the department for decades since its inception.
The medical workers have had to be engaged in intensive treatment activities on holidays or even New Year’s Day.
But they feel pride and honour as health workers when they see patients and their families excited over resuscitation.
