Introducing New Methods of Nursing and Upbringing

Pyongyang International Women’s Day’s 50th Anniversary Nursery was set up in 1958, the postwar period.

At that time the nursery was established, its name was Pyongyang Jungsong Nursery No. 2.

As it had been exemplary in the nursing and upbringing of children, it was renamed Pyongyang International Women’s Day’s 50th Anniversary Nursery in 1960.

Though many years have passed, it still plays a leading role in the nursing and upbringing of children.

It is directing special efforts to the nutritional care of children, the future of the country. Chae Kum Hui, headmistress of the nursery, said that according to the Party’s childcare policy, dairy products and other nutritive foodstuffs are supplied to children and the nursery is making the weekly menu for them in conformity with the daily nutrition guidelines for them.

It also organizes the daily schedule with the main emphasis put on bringing them up to be healthier and stronger.

To this end, it is regularly holding technical study sessions and presentations to raise the practical qualifications of the nurses.

Nurses are striving to find new methods of nursing and upbringing children suited to their psychological characteristics while fostering their concentration, creativity and independence. The nursery has so far produced many prodigies.

Five years ago, four-year-old children of the nursery took part in the autumn Pyongyang municipal children’s paduk games and showed high ability to predict moves, leaving many in amazement.

It is a great pleasure for mothers to see their children growing up and becoming more intelligent day by day.
