New Method of Treating Liver Spots Established

Hwang Mi Ok, a cosmetic surgeon at the dermatology hospital under the Ministry of Public Health, established a new method of treating liver spots known as one of refractory skin diseases.

While working as a cosmetic surgeon after graduating from the then Pyongyang Surgical College 17 years ago, she made some achievements in the treatment of patients with faces deformed owing to burns, as well as with hemangiomas and nevi from moles, warts and corns.

However, she found no effective methods for treating severe liver spots caused by congenital and acquired factors.

She intensified research into the disorder, in the course of which she came to the conclusion that glycolic acid peeling agent, a cosmetic material used to remove liver spots, was worth a try to apply in clinical practice.

If she had used imported raw materials, her research work could have progressed rapidly.

But she succeeded in obtaining the peeling agent with domestic raw materials through painstaking efforts and established a treatment method.

As the treatment method is very effective and seldom entails recurrence, it gives pleasure to patients with this disorder.
