Combining Koryo Medicine and Western Medicine
The Wisong Polyclinic in Unjong District, Pyongyang, makes achievements in medical treatment by combining Koryo medicine and Western medicine.
The clinic relies largely on acupuncture in the treatment of chronic diseases.
Kang Ki Suk, chief of household department No. 1, has special skills in treating chronic tonsillitis which is commonly found in the population. After a 20-year study of acupuncture with keratin peptides, she practised a lot to ensure that there was no single mistake in her application of the therapy.
Eventually, she became renowned as a doctor good at treating chronic tonsillitis with acupuncture. The disease has not recurred among those who were treated by her.
Kim Jae Ok, a doctor at the obstetrics and gynaecology department, is also good at treating women’s diseases with acupuncture. In particular, she uses vitamin B complex in curing postpartum dysuria with acupuncture and treats the patients without damaging the organs of the body. Many of her patients call her a doctor with “medicinal hands.”
