By Using Kwangryangman Sulfuric Mud in Treating Gynecological Disorders

The Pyongyang Maternity Hospital extensively applies Kwangryangman sulfuric mud in rehabilitating pregnant women and nursing mothers.

According to Han Jung Bok, chief of rehabilitation department, the hospital introduced the mud therapy about 30 years ago.

In recent years, Kwangryangman sulfuric mud therapy has shown distinctive effect on autonomic neuropathy, thrusting it in the limelight as a non-medicinal therapy.

Kim Jong Ok, doctor at mud therapy section, conducted research into methods for improving the effect of mud therapy for several years, in the course of which she keenly realized that different treatment methods should be applied according to the disease and conditions of the patient.

She studied the literature on natural therapy and held discussions with experts so as to expand mud poultice area, discover the method of combining poultice therapy and far-infrared therapy, define the temperature and time of treatment suitable for general mud bath and solve other problems.

By applying mud therapy, she treated a case of polyneuroradiculitis due to puerperal sequelas in scores of days and cured many other patients with different diseases. In a national seminar on gynecology in August last year she made public her research results and experience of treating gynecological disorders with Kwangryangman sulfuric mud.

Now the mud therapy developed at the rehabilitation department of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital are widely introduced by gynecological doctors at provincial, city and county hospitals across the country.
