Patients Recover from Ophthalmic Diseases
The internal ophthalmology department in the Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital is taking the lead in introducing advanced therapy. Doctors of the department are improving the eyesight of patients with diseases such as retinal vein occlusion, senile macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy by inserting the neogenetic vascular endothelial cell element inhibitor into the vitreous chamber. They are also directing effort to combining modern medicine and Koryo medicine.
A few months ago, Kim Ri Jong, first-grade student of Kim Il Sung University, was hospitalized for uveitis in her left eye and other complications. Doctor Ryu Sun Jong combined modern medicine and Koryo medicine in treating the patient, so as to rehabilitate her within 20 days.
Kim Yon Hui, head of the department, says: Many patients got cured since the opening of the hospital. It is thanks to the socialist public health system which believes in the people as in heaven and spares nothing for their health, rather than to the help of modern medical facilities and skilled doctors.
