Everyone Has a Family Doctor

All the Korean people have their own family doctors.

The well-regulated district doctor system was set up in the DPRK scores of years ago. 

Under this system, doctors in clinics and ri people’s hospitals, the country’s lowest-echelon treatment and prevention institutions, take charge of the health of the residents in certain areas of their own districts, and take prompt preventive and treatment measures through careful observation.  

Mindful of their responsibility for the health of the people under their charge and of their duty in making the people feel the benefit of the socialist public health system, the family doctors work hard with pure consciousness. 

To take the doctors of the Kwangbok Polyclinic of Mangyongdae District as an example, they treat the outpatients in the morning, and in the afternoon visit the residents to conduct hygienic information work and take preventive measures.

The doctors often make house calls on the patients in their areas, taking emergency measures and treating them.

They have health cards of the residents with detailed medical records of their dietary life, childhood diseases, hobbies, etc. 

They pay special attention to the pregnant women, nursing mothers, elderly citizens, children, war veterans and honoured disabled ex-soldiers.

The residents call them our family doctors, and often invite them to their family celebrations.

Hwang Hyon Suk, head of the polyclinic, said there were a lot more for them to do to provide the residents with better medical assistance and thereby fulfil their duty.
