It Is of No Use If It Harms Health of Smelters
One day in May 1966, Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the then Hwanghae Iron Works (what is now the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex) and saw the tapping of a medium-sized blast furnace that produced pig iron with domestic fuel. At that time the number of dust collectors was not enough to deal with a welter of dust floating in the workplace.
He directed officials to install more dust collectors at an early date, saying that even if we invented a great metallurgical process fed by domestic fuel, it would be of no use if it harms to the health of smelters.
The officials were moved by the instructions of the Chairman who valued the workers’ health more than production.
Before leaving the works, he earnestly told the officials that now we badly need steel, but the health of the smelters is much more precious and we should consider them before molten iron.
