Unshakable Stance
The following happened when President Kim Il Sung guided a consultative meeting of senior officials of the then Administration Council and the economic sector in South Hamgyong Province.
The meeting discussed the issue of building a synthetic rubber factory. At the meeting opinions were raised that pollution could not be completely eliminated by the existing techniques as the factory was to produce rubber by chemical methods.
Learning about the situation, the President, wearing a worried expression, said in a resolute tone that if pollution caused by the production of synthetic rubber could not be eliminated, the factory should not be built.
The officials were quite surprised as they knew better than anyone else how important and urgent the construction of the factory was.
After a while, the President said: Factories and enterprises causing pollution and harming the people’s living should never be built; pollution cannot be tolerated in the least.
Nothing can be tolerated if it does harm to the health and happiness of the people—this was the unshakable stance the President maintained throughout his life.
