A Lift for the People
One day in August Juche 98 (2009) Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the newly-built Pothonggang Fish and Meat Shop.
After looking around the processed meat counters on the second floor, he stopped on his way to the first floor.
He carefully saw the staircases in the shop, and asked if there was a lift here.
After hearing a reply from an official that a lift was not planned to be installed as the shop is a two-storeyed building, he said: There should be a lift here as it is a shop for the people. The elderly would find it difficult to walk up and down the stairs. In conducting every undertaking, we should not merely be concerned about offering convenience to the people but doing it in a perfect way so that they would not feel any inconvenience.
Before leaving the shop, he stressed that though the time of inauguration was near at hand, a lift should be installed before the shop was opened to the public.
