One day in October Juche 71 (1982), two years after the inauguration of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, Chairman Kim Jong Il, while talking with some officials, asked an official if the hospital was supplying women immediately after delivery with honey. The official said that it was supplying them with honey on a regular basis. Kim Jong Il asked him how much the honey cost. The official answered that it was supplied at the price set by the state but it was cheap.

After listening to his answer, Kim Jong Il said: It is wrong to get money from them after supplying honey. From ancient times the Korean women have eaten honey after delivery; honey helps parturient women to recover their health, so our Party sends honey to the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital to supply it to such women; our Party spares nothing in the work for the future of the revolution.
