Construction of Factory Deferred
On July 26, 1991, President Kim Il Sung called an official and told him to defer the construction of a synthetic rubber factory until the problem of pollution to be caused by it was solved.
Since the construction of the factory was a very pressing problem for the DPRK without rubber material, he had paid close attention to producing synthetic rubber with domestic raw materials since the days shortly after the liberation of the country.
Looking at the official filled with surprise, he said: It seems difficult to build the synthetic rubber factory near the February 8 Vinalon Complex because the pollution to be caused by the construction and operation of the factory will be much stronger than that caused by other production processes. I was told that the other day some officials had looked round a synthetic rubber factory during their visit to a foreign country and the smell there was so bad that they could not take meals properly for several days. The construction of the synthetic rubber factory should be deferred until the pollution problem was solved.
Just for the people’s health he ordered to stop the construction of a factory which would bring great economic benefits.
