Capacity of Bactericidal Lamp

On February 24, Juche 69 (1980), the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il visited the newly-built Pyongyang Maternity Hospital.

He entered a circular operation theatre through the hall for meeting inpatients via TV sets. While looking round the modern theatre, he saw a lamp fixed in a corner of the ceiling and asked the officials if it was a bactericidal lamp.

An official answered he was right. Comrade Kim Jong Il said that an operation theatre must be free of bacteria and asked if the lamp had been tested.

The official answered that as it had been newly installed, the lamp had not been tested yet. After estimating the length, width and height of the theatre for a while, Comrade Kim Jong Il said that the capacity of the lamp seemed to be low as compared with the area of the room.

Later relevant officials measured the capacity with precision gauge. As guessed by Comrade Kim Jong Il, the lamp’s capacity proved to be too low to sterilize the whole theatre.

The officials felt remorseful that they had not taken the capacity of the lamp into careful consideration with regard to the area of the operation theatre thinking that it was the latest type with high performance.
